This North East Asia regional conference on Land-Cover and Land Use Change (LCLUC) processes is designed to promote research activities, foster collaboration and the development of research infrastructure among the scientists in the region to address regional environmental issues. The specific goals of this international conference are to:
• Present the state-of-the-art knowledge on LCLUC processes, root causes, consequences, modeling, and sustainable development in the region
• Improve our understanding of ecosystem dynamics, including boreal forests, woodlands, wetlands, and managed ecosystems
The focus will be on the LCLUC processes in the region east of 105E longitude and north of 40N latitude, to address specific issues in this region. It is expected that the outcome of this conference will include a CD with presentations and list of research projects and datasets for the Regional Information Network -- a regional network of the GOFC/GOLD Project.
Conference topics:
• Land-cover and land-use dynamics in the North East Asia Region (NEAR),including fires
• Ecosystem Dynamics, including Carbon, Water and Nutrient Cycles
• Ecological and socioeconomic causes and consequences in North East Asia landscapes (forests, woodlands, wetlands, croplands, grazing lands and urban), including health and environmental impacts
• Geospatial technologies and analytical tools for LCLUC analysis
• Educating LCLUC in the NEAR: Contribution to NEESPI educational component
